The other day, I talked to a fellow who had just gotten back from a two week vacation in Europe. It was the first time he had ever been there. He probably talked to me for an hour about how amazing this trip was. It has been a long time since I've seen someone so overjoyed about a trip. Over and over again, he told me about how this trip changed his life.
He started out in England and visited a number of countries on the mainland, but the two that he spoke most passionately about were Belgium and Denmark. It was in these two countries that he encountered some of the most beautiful, kind, and helpful people that he had ever met.
Besides the wonderful people, the only thing I remember him talking about in regards to Belgium was the amazing beer and delightful chocolate.
It was Denmark that he talked about in greatest detail. He arrived in Copenhagen by train in the middle of the night. He had no idea where he should go for the night. Right away, random strangers began assisting him. He was blown away by the fact, that even in the middle of the night, the streets of Copenhagen were safe and friendly. He wouldn't dare to walk the streets of small-town Canada during such hours.
This fellow's only regret is that he waited so long to make this trip. He said that, had he made this trip earlier in his life, he would probably be living there now. The moral: If you want to do something, just do it. Find a way to make it happen. Don't wait till later in your life; who knows what you might be missing out on.
It was great to hear someone reflect on such a wonderful experience. He is already saving for his next Europe trip. I wonder if the next ticket will be a round trip or not...
